Two Glaser Weil Attorneys Receive Prestigious LEED AP Designation

Jerry Katz and Ryan Nowicki Designated as Accredited Professionals by the U.S. Green Building Council

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Glaser Weil Fink Jacobs Howard & Shapiro LLP is proud to announce that Jerry Katz, a Partner in the Firm’s Real Estate practice, and Ryan Nowicki, an Associate in the Firm’s Tax practice, each recently achieved the designation of being an “Accredited Professional” under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (“LEED”) program administered by the U.S. Green Building Council.

By passing the challenging and highly technical LEED AP exam, typically taken only by architects and engineers, Mr. Katz and Mr. Nowicki joined a small and very select group of lawyers who have demonstrated a thorough understanding of “green” building practices and principles.

“Jerry regularly steers clients through the requirements and strategies to achieve LEED certification,” said Peter Weil, head of the Firm’s Real Estate practice. “In addition to Jerry’s practice, Ryan provides clients with the necessary guidance to ensure that they obtain all of the governmental incentives and tax benefits available for building green.”

“Having the LEED AP accreditation helps to further position the firm at the leading edge of the legal community in this important area of real estate development,” said Jerry Katz. “Ryan and I felt this was an important distinction to have for both our Green Building Practice and for the Firm. Considering the Firm’s established relationships with some of the top green building consultants in the country, as well as its rooted knowledge of the various monetary and tax incentives for building green, we felt that the time was ripe for going after our LEED AP designations.”

Mr. Katz is head of the Firm’s Green Building Practice Group and has principal responsibility for the legal work related to LEED certification for MGM MIRAGE’s CityCenter (Las Vegas, NV), the largest green building project in history. Mr. Nowicki, also a member of the Firm’s Green Building Practice Group, serves an integral role by identifying and securing all of the government and tax incentives available to clients, including MGM MIRAGE, pursuing environmentally-friendly developments.
