Glaser Weil Secures Dismissal with Prejudice for County of LA in Orozco Case

Glaser Weil successfully represented the County of Los Angeles in a civil lawsuit alleging that the plaintiff was wrongfully detained in violation of his constitutional rights and that the defendants were partially liable for this wrongful detention. In the H. Orozco v. Kathryn Barger et al case, the Court ruled in our favor by granting our motion to dismiss, resulting in the entire complaint being dismissed with prejudice.

This lawsuit was filed against nine current and former members of the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors, in their personal capacities. In filing a motion to dismiss, our co-defendant, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, followed our lead and filed a similar motion. In an earlier decision, the Los Angeles Superior Court denied Orozco’s previous habeas corpus motion, which was based on the delay in bringing the case to trial. As a result, this earlier ruling prevents Orozco from bringing up the same issue again in the current case. On July 8, 2024, the Judge accepted the argument that this earlier decision should be considered final and binding.
