Overview
Ayad Mathews is an associate in Glaser Weil’s Litigation Department. As counsel and advocate, he cuts to the heart of the issues and focuses on achieving the best outcomes in the most efficient manner. His practice spans multiple industries and he is well-versed in complex commercial disputes and trade secret litigation.
Ayad is a dedicated advocate. He delivers outstanding representation to clients across federal and state courts, as well as in private arbitrations. With experience handling all stages of litigation—from initial filing to appeal—he has successfully navigated cases involving Civil RICO, Unfair Competition, the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, the Federal Arbitration Act, and the Administrative Procedure Act, among others.
Ayad has a particular depth of experience in:

Prior to joining Glaser Weil, Ayad practiced at an AmLaw 100 firm in San Diego.
Ayad regularly devotes his time to pro bono matters and has served as an advocate for a client in a guardianship case through the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program. He also regularly participates in legal community events, including the San Diego Inn of Court Evidence and Trial Programs.
Ayad is admitted to practice law before all courts in the state of California, the United States District Court for the Central District of California and the United States District Court for the Southern District of California. He earned his J.D. at the University of California, Irvine School of Law, where he graduated cum laude, competed in moot court, and served as a global research fellow and a member of the University’s tax law society. He earned his B.S. in criminal justice from San Diego State University, where he graduated magna cum laude.
Results
Ayad’s notable experience includes his representation of:
- A college and a university in obtaining terminating sanctions against two former employees and their startup company, followed by default judgment on claims for Civil RICO, misappropriation of trade secrets, fraud and breach of the duty of loyalty that resulted in a monetary award of nearly $6 million and an injunction.*
- One of the largest manufacturers, distributers and sellers of açaí products worldwide against a licensee of the company’s trademarks in defeating a temporary restraining order and obtaining an order compelling arbitration under Chapter 2 (New York Convention) of the Federal Arbitration Act.*
- A consulting firm in obtaining summary judgement in a professional liability dispute precluding evidence of over $8 million in damages.*
- A trade school in defeating claims for fraud at the pleading stage.*
- A pro bono client in securing temporary guardianship of her granddaughter.*
