Overview
Celia Spalding is an associate in Glaser Weil’s Litigation Department. She represents individual and corporate clients in internal and regulatory government investigations, and defends companies in class action, consumer fraud and products liability litigation.
Celia has experience representing clients in a variety of industries, including media, consulting, retail, food, dietary supplements, pharmaceuticals, banking, accounting, finance and waste management.
Celia also handles regulatory matters, including regulatory government investigations. She has defended individuals and companies—including banking, private wealth management and biopharmaceutical companies—during complex investigations by various government entities including the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Department of Justice (DOJ), Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and state AG offices.
She has a depth of experience in:
- General commercial litigation
- Class action and consumer products litigation, including multiple disputes related to:
- California’s Automatic Renewal Law (ARL)
- False advertising, including food and dietary supplement labeling claims brought under California’s Unfair Competition Law (UCL) and Consumer Legal Remedies Act (CLRA)
- Investigations, compliance and strategic response
Prior to joining Glaser Weil, Celia was a senior associate in the complex commercial litigation group at an Am Law 10 firm. She served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Timothy A. Barnes of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Celia earned her J.D. from the Northwestern University School of Law, where she served as Development Editor for the Northwestern Journal of Technology and Intellectual Property. She received a B.A., summa cum laude, in English from San Diego State University.

Celia’s notable experience includes her representation of:
- A dietary supplement manufacturer in defending a consumer class action arising out of the UCL and CLRA that was recognized by the Daily Journal as one of the “Top Defense Verdicts” of 2020.*
- An international consulting firm in the pre-litigation resolution of alleged negligence and breach of contract claims.*
- An international media company in a putative class action arising out of the California Automatic Renewal Law (ARL).*
- Financial institutions in connection with DOJ investigations.*
- A private wealth management firm in connection with an SEC investigation.*
- A biopharmaceutical company in an internal investigation related to FDA regulatory compliance.*
