Overview
James Sargent provides sophisticated legal counsel to guide corporate and individual clients through a wide range of high-stakes commercial and business disputes. A skilled first-chair trial attorney who has tried nearly 70 cases to verdict, James maintains a diverse practice, which includes entertainment litigation, corporate and financial disputes, breaches of contracts, intellectual property infringement and trade secret violations.
Keenly aware of the impacts litigation can have on a business, James takes a pragmatic, results-oriented approach to achieving his clients’ goals early and amicably. However, if the client is best served by a trial, James has the skill and ability to obtain a favorable verdict. His success emerges from his ability to simplify complex cases, develop winning strategies, and adeptly communicate with the jury, judge or arbitrator.
James has particularly deep experience in:
- High stakes commercial and business litigation
- White collar matters
Prior to joining the Firm, James litigated products liability, toxic tort, and catastrophic injury cases in state and federal courts. Most recently, he served as a Deputy District Attorney in Los Angeles County, prosecuting complex, high-profile cases involving organized criminal enterprises and cyber enabled crime.
He received his undergraduate degree in business administration from the United States Air Force Academy. After completing his military service, he enrolled in Loyola Law School, where he was a standout member of Loyola’s nationally ranked Byrne Trial Advocacy Team, and senior editor of the Los Angeles Public Interest Law Journal.
James is the devoted husband of Emmy nominated and Image Award winning television writer Amberia Allen.
