Overview
Michael “Mike” Gosling is a litigation associate in Glaser Weil’s San Diego office whose practice focuses on commercial litigation. Mike has represented clients in federal and state courts at both the trial and appellate levels, as well as in private arbitration and internal and government investigations. He brings a wealth of experience advising clients across diverse industries, including consumer products, professional sports, technology, apparel, energy, pharmaceuticals and financial services.
Over the course of his career, Mike has skillfully led and worked on teams in matters involving claims for breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, trade secret misappropriation, mass tort, products liability, public nuisance, and violations of the False Claims Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, among other claims.
Mike has taken dozens of depositions, assisted in several trials, including serving as first-chair in an immigration court trial that secured a grant of asylum for a pro bono client. He has also been the principal author of successful briefs submitted to private arbitration panels, California trial courts, federal district courts, the California Court of Appeal and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Before becoming a lawyer, Mike spent almost a decade playing professional baseball (2001 – 2010) as a left-handed pitcher. His career included time in Major League Baseball with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians (now Guardians). Mike understands the power of teamwork and a competitive drive.
Prior to joining Glaser Weil, Mike practiced complex civil litigation at an Am Law 20 firm in San Diego. He also served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Jeffrey T. Miller of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California (2016 – 2017), where he learned litigation and trial practice first-hand from a judge’s perspective.
Mike earned his J.D. from Stanford Law School, where he was an articles editor for the Stanford Journal of Law, Science and Policy. During law school, he also participated in the Marion Rice Kirkwood Moot Court competition, volunteered for the Street Law Pro Bono Organization and served as co-president of Older Wiser Law Students (OWLS). Mike earned his B.A. in human biology from Stanford University, graduating two quarters early while playing for Stanford’s nationally ranked baseball team.

- A well-known San Diego sports equipment and apparel company against a breach of contract claim worth tens of millions of dollars.*
- An emerging technology company in multiple proceedings in California state court and private arbitration with millions of dollars at issue.*
- Hundreds of individual clients in mass tort actions against a large utility company arising out of California wildfires.*
- Numerous pro bono clients, including securing a trial win for a Guatemalan family seeking asylum and successfully petitioning for review to the Ninth Circuit on behalf of a mother seeking asylum.*
