Ryan T. Banks is Of Counsel in Glaser Weil’s Intellectual Property Department. Ryan represents companies across a wide range of industries, including telecommunications, medical devices, semiconductors and technology. With experience spanning patent, trade secret and copyright disputes, Ryan delivers tailored strategies to help clients achieve favorable outcomes in complex, high-stakes cases.

Ryan guides clients through every stage of litigation, from strategy and pre-suit investigations to trial. He has extensive experience drafting dispositive motions, taking and defending key depositions and handling large-scale discovery. His technical experience and ability to navigate intricate legal and factual issues make him a trusted advocate in resolving challenging disputes.

Before joining Glaser Weil, Ryan practiced at an Am Law 10 firm.

In addition to his litigation practice, Ryan has a strong commitment to pro bono work, including representing clients in appellate and public interest cases, such as voters’ rights litigation.

Ryan earned his J.D. from UCLA School of Law in 2017, where he served as a writing advisor and participated in various law and technology-related organizations. He received his B.S. in Engineering Physics from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2012. During law school, Ryan worked as a research assistant to Professor Douglas Lichtman, contributing to scholarship on patent licensing and royalties for audio-related patents.

Ryan’s notable experience includes his representation of:

  • Intellectual Ventures I LLC in securing a $43 million patent infringement victory in the Eastern District of Texas against Ericsson and T-Mobile regarding LTE software patents.*
  • Johnson and Johnson Surgical Vision, Inc., in a patent and copyright infringement dispute with Alcon over cataract laser system technologies, ultimately securing a confidential settlement shortly before trial.*
  • Skyryse, Inc., in asserting and defending trade secret claims against defense contractor Moog related to Skyryse’s novel autonomous aircraft technology.*
  • Vade Secure, Inc., in defending complex trade secret claims regarding email malware detection technology brought by competitor Proofpoint related to Vade’s hiring of former Proofpoint employees.*
